Our Inspiration : Peter Darryl Colucci The Strength, Heart, and Character of a Brave Boy ![]() Peter's Wish, Inc. is named after Peter Darryl Colucci, who died from Non-Hodgkins Disease Lymphoma, a form of cancer, on February 26th, 1984. Peter courageously fought the disease for over a year and a half. However, after a grueling struggle, he died just after turning 10 years old.
Before Peter passed away, he said to his father the words that no child should ever have to say. These words are the inspiration behind Peter's Wish:
Dad, I am not afraid of dying, I just wish that I could grow up to be a man like you.
Peter's dying wish was to have the opportunity to live a fulfilled and meaningful life.
Peter was such an incredible caring and loving little boy. Like others who face their death, life became more clear to Peter. What really mattered most were the important aspects of life. Being selfless toward others is one.
On yet another trip to the hospital, Peter reflected on the trials and tribulations of fellow kids suffering life-threatening sicknesses. He asked his father:
Why should I be the one? Why should I be the one to live when so many others are dying?
Facing his own death, Peter's thoughts were of others. A selfless life is a meaningful one. His strength, character, and heart have been an inspiration for those who knew him.
